The storied history of the iconic building known simply as the “Arena” came to a sudden and dramatic end on March 18th,1969 when the revered facility, which had hosted many a hockey game and community event, was completely destroyed by fire. For many, it signaled the end of an era.
Hi, Bill. Another great piece, and one that brought back memories! You mention that your parents met when they were skating at the arena. If I remember correctly, there was a “Thirty to Ninety Club” that skated in the arena on Sundays. I didn’t belong (I was too young, and also a terrible skater), but the club was popular in its time.
Thanks Chuck for your comment and continued support!
